Emerging farmer takes root in Carver County

At the end of October, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture announced the appointment of eight members to its first Emerging Farmers Working Group — including Carver County resident Maren McDonell.
The group’s charge, according to a press release, is to advise the Department of Agriculture and the Legislature on ways to help farmers who “traditionally face barriers to the resources necessary to build profitable agricultural businesses.”
It defined “emerging farmers” as women, veterans, people with disabilities, American Indians/Alaskan Natives, members of communities of color, young people, LGBTQIA+ and urban farmers.
