Rosemount land could house industrial park or data center

Just over a month after the Rosemount City Council unanimously approved a 750,000-square-foot data center to be built for Meta, it’s possible that another data center could be coming to town following a review of an area commonly called Rich Valley East.

According to public documents, an alternative urban areawide review, or AUAR, of 333 acres of agricultural land at County Road 42 and Emery Ave. E. in Rosemount is happening at the request of a firm called Project Mercury LLC to determine whether the area could be data center or an industrial park.

An AUAR is an environmental review and planning tool that examines worst-case scenarios of potential effects following development of a piece of land. Usually reserved for larger developments, AUARs are alternatives to doing an environmental assessment worksheet.
